Abstract

We determined the amounts of timber extracted, the damage caused by mining activity and the reduction of basal area obtained after the application of three systematic thinning intensities in an exploited in the Tapajós National Forest, municipality of Belterra, To area. The forest monitoring was accomplished through permanent plots measured before and after the operation and the application of thinning. The forestry extracted on average 11 árvores.he, 4,5m2.ha 61,0m3.ha1 basal area and volume, occurring large variation between treatments. For each commercial tree explored were lost on average 4.3 individuals with DBH 10cm and approximately 0,5m2 basal area severely affected by exploitation. The reduction in basal area, obtained with the logging and thinning performed by annealing and devitalization of known species without commercial value trees, was approximately 10% lower than planned in all treatments due to presence of large number of species with recesses in the shaft and exudation of latex or resin that hindered the implementation and application of annealing arboricida.
