Embrapa Roraima has sheep breed Barbados Black Belly (Blackbelly), corn great adaptability to the environment, characterized by prolonged drought corn serious difficulties for forage production. Seldom were given necessary conditions for these animals demonstrate its productive potential, being created almost always broadly. Aiming to verify the weight growth and carcass characteristics of lambs Blackbelly 22 animals (lambs at 7 months) were confined for 60 days. Two diets based on elephant grass (60%) and pigeonpea (40%) and 1.5% of the weight of the animals with isoproteic ration (26% CP) containing corn or rice as an energy source and soybean meal were used as protein source . Weight gain was not different (P> 0.05) between treatments. The different energy sources did not influence (P> 0.05) carcass characteristics of animals, demonstrating that the choice between energy sources should be based on economic factors.
