COMBINING ABILITY corn genotypes FOR SOILS WITH LOW LEVELS OF FERTILITY Ní ??
Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the general and specific combining ability of maize genotypes in order to identify genotypes for the formation of base population for the improvement in conditions of low soil fertility in the state of Tocantins. Seven parents were used in diallel cross with the use of method 4 of Griffing, 21 experimental hybrids were obtained. The experimental design was a randomized block design with three replications. The crosses involving the cultivars XB2271 and XB2270 with cultivar AS2449 were considered the most promising, highest CEC values for the traits number of ears, ear weight and grain weight being watched, and they involve the parent AS2449, which is what showed higher values of GCA. The results show the importance of plant breeding in identifying parents for the formation of increasingly populations adapted to conditions in a region and the identification of hybrid combinations that best express heterosis.
