Indirect enzyme immunoassay for detection of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies in cats in the city of Belém do Pará, Brazil
Abstract
Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic protozoan with high potential who own felines,
mainly cats as definitive hosts capable of eliminating in your stool, million
oocysts of Toxoplasma gondii. These oocysts survive for about a year in the external medium in
favorable environment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence of specific anti-T IgG antibodies.
gondii in 32 serum samples obtained from domestic cats coming in the Metropolitan region
Belém do Pará. Owners participants answered a questionnaire on epizootic
the feline toxoplasmosis. All samples were tested by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay
solid phase through ImmunoComb® Toxo IgG kit. After the serology results were analyzed
and associated with epizootic survey. In serological survey, we obtained 100% of negativity in the samples. Epizootic in the survey, it was observed that of the 32 animals, 11 (34.37%) were domiciled, nine (28.12%) and 12 free-living semidomiciliados, four (12.5%) of diurnal and eight (25%) of nocturnal habit. As for food, 11 (34.37%) consumed only food,
eight (25%) and feed raw meat, six (18.75%) ration associated with home and seven (21.87%) and raw meat food homemade food. The results suggest that the feline population analyzed, probably due to the creation and food habit system, was not exposed to the parasite T. gondii.
