EFFECT OF OILS AND EXTRACTS FROM AQUEOUS Azadirachta indica A. JUSS Jowitt and Cymbopogon winterianus ON corniger MOTSCHULS Nasutitermes (Isoptera: Termitidae)
Abstract
In this work, we evaluated the effect of Azadirachta indica and winterianus Cymbopogon on Nasutitermes corniger. The experiments were performed at the Laboratory of Entomology at the State University of Maranhão, in warm room: temperature 26 + 2 ° C; 70 + 10% R.U. and continuous scotophase. The experimental design was completely randomized design with seven treatments and ten replicates. In tests I and II, cardboard disks were immersed in aqueous solutions containing extracts and oils of citronella and neem at concentrations of 1%, 5% and 10% (w / v) and 0.1%, 0.2% and 0 , 3% (v / v), respectively and placed in containers with twenty termites. Based on the mortality results of previous tests, were selected for testing III
The aqueous extracts from neem leaves and citronella 5% (w / v) and oils at a concentration of 0.2% (v / v). In this test we chose to spray the termites besides soaking the paper disks in such concentrations. The control consisted of distilled water. The evaluations were performed at 4, 8, 24, 32, 48, 56 and 72 hours, counting the number of dead termites. Citronella oil performed better on the mortality of N. corniger. We conclude that the products in the dosages that have been tested have contact action and ingestion for these insects.
