Abstract

Guarana seed powder from the Amazon is a product with therapeutic effects, energetic and antioxidant effects attributed to methylxanthines and catechins. The behavior of guarana genotypes in different environments aims to support the breeding program. The objective of this study is to select genotypes of guarana by simultaneous selection, with wide adaptability, stability and productivity for agroindustrial characters, for the state of Amazonas, Brazil. The evaluations were performed in eight genotypes, nine characters and four replications, in six environments, with combination of locals (Manaus, Maués and Rio Preto da Eva) and years (2015 and 2016). Theobromine, theophylline, caffeine, catechin and epicatechin were quantified in extracts by High Performance Liquid Chromatography. The yield of metabolites was calculated through yield. Yield, adaptability, stability, GxE interaction, genetic parameters, genetic and genotypic correlations, and selection index of the genotypes. BRS Maués presented high adaptability, stability and yield, and high contents of catechin and epicatechin. The genotypes CIR815, CIR904 and CMU874 showed high adaptability, stability and yield, and were selected with and has potential to be future cultivars by showed high yield of dry seeds, caffeine, catechins and caffeine yield.
