Fungal incidence and productivity of hydroponic lettuce at high temperatures
Keywords:

The hydroponic system offers advantages in protected cultivation, such as a lower incidence of pests and diseases compared to conventional cultivation. However, leafy vegetables can still be affected by pathogens, such as fungi and viruses, making it essential to carry out diagnostics to ensure the safety and productivity of lettuces. Due to the high demand for lettuce and the climatic conditions of the region, hydroponic cultivation was adopted, being a common practice among family farmers. It is crucial to evaluate fungal diseases to improve product quality, especially in the state of Pará, which lacks technical information on the production of vegetables adapted to the hot and humid climate.
Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the fungal incidence and yield of lettuce grown in a hydroponic system.
The experiment was carried out on the property of the company B&A Hidroponia, located in the Rural Condominium in the municipality of Paragominas. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The cultivars used were Lirice (Vilmorin), SVR 2005, Maira, Scarlet and Leticia. The experiment was monitored until the occurrence of symptoms caused by pathogens was detected in lettuces, these leafy trees that showed symptoms were taken to the phytopathology laboratory of UFRA, Campus Paragominas, where they were analyzed. In addition, data were taken from the weight of fresh and dry mass, roots and leaf count to observe productivity. In the analysis, it was found that only one of the three cultivars that were collected and analyzed showed symptoms caused by the pathogen Cercospora longissima. The incidence of this fungus in lettuce may be linked to the fact that the northern region of Brazil has very favorable climatic conditions for occurrence. Therefore, it is concluded that the SVR cultivar was the one that presented fungal incidence to Cercospora longa and that the cultivars Lirice and Maíra were resistant, with cv. Lyric with better agronomic performance in productivity and resistance to disease, being, therefore, this cultivar indicated for cultivation in a hydroponic system in regions with high temperatures, as is the case of Paragominas in the State of Pará.
