Evaluation of participatory research in the implementation of agroforestry systems in rural settlements in the State of Amazonas
Abstract
Summary: From the eighties, the Amazon has become the center of global environmental concern, especially for the consequences of deforestation and fires. One of the factors considered responsible for the increase of deforestation is shifting agriculture, especially in the settlements. As an alternative to the process used by migrants, more sustainable systems of land use, such as agroforestry systems (AFS) have been proposed, adding subsistence to income generation. The factor that juntouse the need to reduce the distance between the search results and target audience. In this perspective, we developed the project Presidente Figueiredo, to farmers in a settlement area of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA) in the state of Amazonas. The evaluation showed that those farmers with the need to move from a technical experiments for environmental testing. While deployed SAFs were considered positive from the point of view of technical-productive, no adoption by other farmers, because of the need for initial investment, condition still far from the reality of farmers.
